Should I keep my VAN?

My friends and family know all about my white
 2002 Mazda MPV.  After 8 years of service and numerous repairs, a year long glow of a check engine light while it runs well, plus the filth of the summer with three children, I have pondered, "Should I keep this car?"

After speaking with my husband, I happily browsed the web for my next car.  I wanted to say good bye to the mini van for a compact car with manual shift and leather seating; a sunroof too!
After some research, I decided on a few while favoring the Subaru Crosstek.

There are many contenders... that new car smell, firm handling, and working amenities.....the idea of a new car is very alluring!

We all know that new cars grow old after that first scratch;  the payments grow old real fast especially with terms as long as 5 or more years!  Even the attractive lease of $150 a month on the Subaru still required a $2500 downpayment.  Logically, will my car require a 2500+ 1800 (12x150) = $4300 in repairs this year.  After a 3 year lease 5400 plus 2500 down payment, I would still be searching for a car or looking to buy this one.  That could be $7000 for many other things or even a down payment for when this van repairs do outweigh my benefits.  

SO unless I am just about an image, getting into a car payment is not necessary!

SO IT WAS TIME TO TAKE PRIDE IN MY RIDE

If you thought your car was filthy, look at mine.  Getting back to basics, I detailed my own car for a change.  Starting with a trash bag, a cordless vacuum, brush, dust pan, microfiber towels, and GREENWAY, I removed trash, wiped surfaces, removed stains, and freshened the scent of the interior.  On the exterior, I used a combination of Greenway and the NO WET ULTRA METAL POLISH to remove all the oxidation left from neglect.  White cars tend to clean from a distance but this one was dingy and lacked all luster.  After my exterior detail, the surface is reflective.  

The facts are the following: 1.  I have a super short 2 mile commute to work.  2. It holds 7 passengers nicely.  3. It's cabin is big enough for the AJ PhotoStudios Photo Booth that I man for my father's business.  4. It has not needed a major $500 plus repair in over two years; I have repaired or replaced many things already; not much left to repair.  5. It is PAID IN FULL.  6. It's white and looks cleaner longer.    7. Even my mechanic said, "Keep it."

8 - If all I needed was Greenway to help me fall in love with my car again, then there are still many miles ahead.

FUNDRAISING the GREENWAY

The Concept

I would like to share with you a concept that can generate significant income for a community organization such as yours.   

Car washes have traditionally been successful fundraising activities. However, in more and more communities this wasteful use of our precious and limited supplies of drinking water is now prohibited. 

The idea of a "waterless" car wash is new and unique and benefits you and your community organization in several ways: 

It can produce significant income on the day of the event. 

Promoting water conservation has a positive community impact.

It can continue to generate income even after the event should you choose to promote product sales and/or sponsoring after the event.

The Plan

Conduct a Waterless Car Wash, a complete exterior vehicle detail, a wash, wax, polish and seal, with revenue derived primarily from "pledges." 

Income Potential 

Your members/supporters are provided with flyers to distribute to friends, around the neighborhood, on local bulletin boards, etc., and pledge sheets (see attached sample): 

Example of income potential: 

100 pledge sheets x 25 pledges per sheet = 2500 pledges x .10 for each car washed = $250.00 income for each car washed x 100 cars = $25,000 total income potential (i.e., $10 from each person who pledged) for every 100 cars washed. The .10 cents pledge is only a suggestion, you can ask for whatever amount you see fit. 

Estimated Cost

NO OUT OF POCKET COST TO YOUR ORGANIZATION! 

NOWET CONCEPTS will provide all advertising, printing, product, supplies and training for your event. We will have at least two expert detailers at the site of your fundraiser to supervise the event. 

The income from your event will be split 70 / 30...70% to your organization and 30% to NOWET CONCEPTS. 

NOWET will have rewards for the top three pledge writers.

NOWET CONCEPTS reserves the right to review the amount of pledges before committing to the event. NOWET will be due the amount equal to 30% of the pledges that are pledged before the event takes place. Example: If $10,000.00 is pledged and your group only collects $7,000.00 NOWET will still received 30% of the pledged amount, $10.000.00. By having this in the agreement it will make sure your participants do their due diligence in collecting their pledges. 

Manpower: NOWET will supervise and organize the details below. 

Assign a "team" to each vehicle - 4 people are best. A team of 4 can detail a car in approximately 10 minutes. 

Have each team member assigned 1/4 section of the vehicle. We will instruct them on the proper procedure for cleaning. They work 1 1/2 hour shifts and then train their replacement and turn their 8-oz applicator bottle over to their replacement. 

With 6 teams of 4 each it should be possible to wash 100 cars in 3 hours.

Optional: 

NOWET products can be sold from a "Product Sales Table" THE INCOME FROM THIS IS SPLIT 50 / 50

Soft drinks can be sold to those waiting for their vehicles. THIS IS THE EVENT HOLDERS RESPONSIBILITY.

Check list for waterless car wash 

Preplanning: 

Set date of event at least 4 weeks away      

Secure a location on busy street with easy access and high visibility 

Hand out pledge sheets, flyer, and scheduling roster to every person who will participate in obtaining pledges 

Secure an ample supply of clean 100% terry cloth rags. NOWET WILL SUPPLY ALL SUPPLIES

Order the anticipated amount of product and dispenser bottles NOWET WILL SUPPLY ALL SUPPLIES

Make sure you have tables and chairs. 

Canopies are very helpful to cool down the vehicles in case it is a very hot day. They also add a festive atmosphere and make the site more visible. Bungee cords can be used to hang banners and attach weights to canopies in case of wind. 

Have something to use as a tip bucket. 

Have forms for drivers to fill out while car is being washed with name address and telephone number and a box to collect completed forms. 

Have some kind of tape or cones to make lanes on day of event. NOWET WILL SUPPLY ALL SUPPLIES

Have sign made up saying FREE CAR WASH / COMPLETE EXTERIOR DETAIL for people to hold on comers and hang around site. 

The day of the event: 

On day of event have supervisors meet 30 minutes early to set up lanes, tables, canopies and decide on flow of traffic 

Set up system of training first teams and control distribution and return of applicator bottles.   

Designate waiting area with shade, seating and possible refreshments.  

As cars are left to be washed driver should be given form requesting name, address and, telephone number. It is critical to insure that this form is collected before driver leaves site. 

Set up product and opportunity tables. 

The person at the end should thank the people and quickly check the vehicle for any residue remaining and make sure form is collected.

From planting a tree to recycling, there are many ways to be kind to our Earth.

Dream big, start small... Living the Greenway

While I have been involved for many years, I have been highly focused on my Greenway business for the last two weeks.  I dream of expansion; putting others in control of their own business.  The product - Greenway by NoWet Concepts has unlimited income potential.  This is obviously great news, agreed. (see list below) At the same time, that fact is overwhelming and makes it difficult for one to decide how and where to begin.

I have been a public school teacher since 1999, and have enjoyed a lot of that experience in the 8th grade.  As I put forth my efforts in developing a detailing gig that my friends can continue for me in fall and reach out through a social media campaign for others who want to participate in the opportunities the Greenway product offers, I see that my teaching career has been a good training ground.

In education, we learn to keep things simple.  We have many tasks at hand at all moments, many personalities with differing needs at various moments.  Teachers quickly learn to prioritize and balance their time.  As I type tonight, I think of how many times I have sat preparing an extension to the next day's lesson, writing an exam,  recording feedback on lab reports as the scenes on the television occupied the back of mind.  Right now John my husband of thirteen years has chosen Abraham Lincoln; Vampire Hunter as my distraction.  Its not so interesting right now.  

This week threw me road blocks, like a a fire drill during an exam.  Yesterday I blew out a tire on my car.  The whole ordeal cost me $32.00 for the replacement, thanks to the insurance we bought at Firestone, the covered tow from Geico, AND several hours of work.  Yet, I do realize, entrepreneurs are always thinking about their business as I made good use of the smart phone as I waited for my ride home.

  This morning my detailing offer for a local venue got cancelled.  I was disappointed, accepted the situation and then went on to the next thing.  I posted that I had an opening.  A long time friend from my husbands fire department messaged me..and so it goes.  Sheena, my son, and I detailed her Hyundai Sante Fe.  She purchased a quart of the Greenway for her husbands truck - enough for 14-16 average cars.  That was easy..the product sells itself! Bonus..I got to see Jess, Andrew and Dee too!  Finally, tonight at the local supermarket, I planted the seeds with another person in my circle of influence for another possible opportunity.
